Micor Industries, Inc. founder and president Mike Heath was named the “2008 Small Business Person of the Year” by the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce on May 13. Heath was chosen for the honor by past recipients of the award, which was presented during the chamber’s annual Small Business Breakfast event held in Decatur, Alabama.

Heath and Micor Industries were also recently honored during a state-wide awards ceremony, hosted by the Alabama Technology Network and the Business Council of Alabama. The company was named the “2008 Emerging Manufacturer of the Year” for the entire state of Alabama and was one of only four industries honored during the event.

Contract manufacturer and machining company Micor Industries, Inc. was named the “Emerging Manufacturer” during the 2008 Alabama Manufacturer of the Year Awards hosted by the Alabama Technology Network and the Business Council of Alabama. Micor Industries was one of only four industries in Alabama to be honored during this year’s award ceremony, which was held on April 24 in Montgomery, Alabama.

Micor Industries, incorporated in 2004, experienced rapid growth in 2007, following a $2 million investment in expansion and the purchase of new equipment. Sales for the company increased by approximately 200%, rising from an annual average of $3 million to $7.1 million in 2007. Additionally, the Micor Industries’ client base, which includes companies within the defense, oil field, sub sea / nuclear and aerospace industries, has doubled since their incorporation.
